Dos and Don'ts of Being
Your Own Wedding Planner

Follow these tips for planning your own wedding

Be your own wedding planner
Wedding can be hard on your budget, so if you can handle the pressure,
plan your own wedding, with help from friends and family.

So, he finally asked the big question, and you said yes! After the initial thrill, excitement and happiness, you found yourself with a big task ahead of you. Keep the happiness, but calm down. You’ll need a cold head and a clear mind to face a responsibility as big as planning a wedding is. Decide on this first, even before you start making your own wedding invitations.

Sure, it may be a lot easier to hire a professional wedding planner to do all the work for you, but if your budget can’t take it, you’ll have to rely on yourself, your closest friends and family. This shouldn't scare you, because being your own wedding planner has a lot of benefits: not only will you save some money, but you’ll have an opportunity to be personally involved in every detail of your big day, which will further guarantee that everything turns out to be exactly as you wanted it to be, with that special, intimate touch that even the best wedding planner can’t deliver.

Clear your head and plan your wedding
Planning your own wedding is a great responsibility, so make sure your approach it
with a clear head and understanding all that it entails.

Good organization and planning in advance are crucial for a stress-free wedding, and that is why we’ve prepared a few tips for you, that will help you organize the wedding of your dreams in no time.

Write everything down

Make a list of all the things you’ll need for your wedding ceremony and then create a to-do-list for each individual thing – music, flowers, food, clothes, decorations, gifts, cake, colour scheme and so on. It may sound like a long list but, trust us, it is necessary if you want to make sure that everything’s done properly. Plus, you’ll see just how amazing will it feel to cross something that you managed to finish off the list.

If you like to do things the old fashioned way, and write everything down by hand, choose a notebook for this purpose only. Prepare folders to archive all the necessary papers, and create your own marking style, so you can easily find anything you need. For example, use different colours for different segments of your wedding – pink for flowers, orange for music, green for food, etc.

Making your own flower aggangements is great, but if your time is stretched
and you can't delegate it to your friends, use wedding flower services.

If you’re more familiar with new technologies, use applications to note down all of the information and store everything on some virtual platform. This way, you can access your list from any computer, or your smartphone, and share the information with your fiancĂ© or anyone else who is helping you plan the wedding.

Once you have all the tasks enlisted, it will be much easier to plan a budget.

Ask around

First: use the internet as much as you can. There you can find any information you might need – from recommendations and details like phone numbers and addresses, to useful tips on how to manage or create something, as well as ideas for decorations and DIY tips – all those things that would otherwise be hard to find. Also, by doing a thorough research you are bound to find the items you need at the best price.

Find good catering
Food is an important part of your wedding, so ask around and find
a good catering service that will take care of it for you.

Also, don’t be shy to ask around. Off course, it’s not recommended to bore people and act like your wedding is everyone’s top priority, but hearing other opinions and ideas can be very refreshing for your perspective. Sometimes, other people (especially other brides) may remember some detail that hasn’t crossed your mind - like flower girl baskets, for example - or maybe have some recommendations about the venue, band, catering, etc.

Think twice

The problem which may occur if you don’t have a professional wedding planner is lack of references and recommendations when it comes to hiring the needed services. So, when you’re on your own, before hiring a band to play at the ceremony, go to their gig to make sure that they are what you had in mind. If you’re hiring a DJ instead, check the playlist and be strict about the music genres you’d like to have at your party.

Apart from music, the other very important part of your wedding is food, so try to find a good catering service and make an arrangement. Also, if you’re considering making food on your own – don’t. Even with all the friends and family helping you, it would still be too risky and too stressful.

Write everything down
Don't let the details slip by or important parts escape you -
write it all down and enjoy seeing it done.

No matter how good you plan your wedding, chances are that it won’t be perfect. Something unexpected can always come up and you should be prepared for such a situation. Therefore, it’s very important to stay calm and don’t freak out about every single problem. Remember, this is a wonderful occasion in which you, your fiancĂ© and your love are in the spotlight.
