The Pros and Cons of
Creating Your Own Wedding Decorations
and How to Get Started

As a hobbyist or craft enthusiast, it can be very tempting to consider a DIY wedding. Rather than buying expensive decorations, chair coverings and centerpieces, it is possible to make them yourself quickly and easily. This can potentially save you thousands of dollars.

However, planning and creating for your own wedding is very expensive on time. To add more pressure to yourself by trying to find time to make all your own wedding decorations is tough. You could enlist the help of some like-minded friends, or you could use the internet to give you helpful tips to speed things up.

Your own wedding invitations

Creating your own wedding invitations from scratch is a lot of work. You need to think about the design and font. You also need to consider the weight of the card or paper. Individually putting each one together can take a lot of time and effort. Then there is the guest list. You need to write out every name and address without mistakes. No wonder so many people use a professional printer! There is a simple compromise. There are websites that offer free printable wedding invitation templates. This saves you a great deal of time lining things up and getting the colors to work, and it costs you nothing to use.

Make your own floral decorations

Setting up wedding tables can be a lot of work, but with some good help it can be made to look great.

Flowers are very expensive to buy for weddings. Many florists do offer wedding packages to include garlands, buttonholes, and two bouquets, but they may restrict your choice of bloom and shape of the displays. For a truly unique bouquet, you can purchase some excellent artificial flowers, and form them into a bouquet yourself.

You can then choose any binding you like as the flowers are not fresh. While it does take a great deal of time to put all your floral decorations together, you won’t have to run around the night before your wedding to pick up all of the fresh ones.

Get organized with a schedule

There will be times when you are under too much pressure to get some of your craft ideas complete in time. There is always the option to buy what you need, but it would be a shame to have to spend the extra money. To help you get organized for your wedding in time, set yourself a schedule. List all the things you want to make yourself. Next to each item, see if you can break down the method or process into smaller tasks. Once you have done this, you should be able to see how long it will take you to complete everything.

If you can spare thirty minutes after work each night to complete one small task, you should be well on the way to creating your own wedding. Like many things, being well organized and getting into a good work routine will help enormously. You needn’t spend a lot of money to achieve your dream wedding, but you may need to allocate a fair amount of time. Perhaps one of the best things about creating it yourself, is that it will all last forever as lovely keepsakes.
